Living in Florida, we have to worry about more than just traffic accidents. We have flooded streets, falling oak branches, and unfortunately, theft.
Clients often ask, “Am I covered if a tree falls on my car?”
Comprehensive vs. Collision
The answer lies in understanding the two main parts of your physical damage coverage: Collision and Comprehensive. Collision is when you hit another car or object. But Comprehensive is for everything else.
If a tree falls on your hood, that is a Comprehensive claim.
If you hit a deer? Comprehensive.
If your car is stolen? Comprehensive .
If you have this coverage on your policy, you will be paid out the actual cash value of the vehicle at the time of the loss. So, if you are driving a 2016 Toyota and it gets stolen, we pay you what a 2016 Toyota is worth today.
Just make sure you actually have “Comprehensive” listed on your declarations page—don’t just assume “Full Coverage” includes everything.
