The Consequences of Driving Without Insurance in Florida

Did your policy lapse? The DMV will know. Learn about the serious legal consequences of driving without insurance in Florida.

We live in a busy world, and sometimes people let things slip. But letting your car insurance lapse in Florida is a serious issue.

Driving without insurance is illegal, plain and simple.

The DMV is Watching

If your policy lapses because of a missed payment or a term end, the insurance company notifies the state. You will quickly get a letter or email from the DMV asking for proof of new coverage.

If you can’t provide it, you are required by law to hand back your driver’s license and your license plate .

You cannot legally have a car titled to you or drive on our roads without active coverage.

Registering a Car

This goes for buying cars, too. You cannot register a vehicle without showing proof of insurance at the DMV counter. We actually get phone calls all the time from clients standing in line at the DMV. They call us, give us the VIN, and within five minutes we email them the ID card they need to hand to the clerk.

Don’t risk losing your license. If you are struggling with a payment, call us before the policy lapses.
