I work with many small business owners here in Winter Park and Orlando, and the number one question is always: “What insurance do I actually need?”
If you are leasing a space, your landlord will make that decision for you. They almost always require two things: Property Insurance (to cover the contents inside the rented premises) and Liability Insurance. If a customer slips on the carpet or falls in your bathroom, the landlord wants to make sure you are the one being sued, not them.
But what if you are a mobile business?
What if you are a videographer, a social media manager, or a window washer?
Even if you don’t have a storefront, you absolutely need liability insurance. I recently wrote a policy for a window washer who uses a high-pressure hose. He is a “one-man band” making maybe $30,000 or $40,000 a year. He can’t afford thousands in premiums. We got him a policy for about $900 a year, which is less than $100 a month, that covers him at any home in Central Florida.
The same goes for creatives. If you are a photographer and you want to shoot a session at a city park or a specific venue, they will often require you to show proof of liability insurance before they let you on site. We can write inexpensive policies for these types of freelancers.
For example, liability for a small community center here in Winter Park cost only $700 for the year. It is a small price to pay to ensure that one lawsuit doesn’t put you out of business. Plus, we can usually arrange monthly payments so you don’t have to pay it all upfront.
